Tumbling Classes

These classes are for the gymnast or those involved in another sport who want to spend time focusing on floor skills only.  Tumblers with little or no experience will begin in Level One, where they will learn the basics such as forward and backward rolls, cartwheels and handstands.  Tumblers with experience will be evaluated and placed in the appropriate level.  As the tumbler progresses through the program he/she will learn limbers, walkovers, handsprings, flips and connection tumbling.  We teach both forward and backward tumbling throughout our program to ensure the student is a strong, well-rounded tumbler.

Tumbling Levels

Like our all-around gymnastics classes, our tumbling program is taught in a progressive manner.  Each level has certain skills, and flexibility and strength standards which must be mastered in order to advance to the next level (see chart).  Proper progression takes time and every student is different.  Most students will not learn a back handspring in one session.  While certain skills come easy to some, others may have difficulty.  Our instructors treat every student as an individual and the focus will be on each student’s personal accomplishments.

How Many Classes Per Week?

For younger or beginning tumblers we recommend one class per week.  The decision to come two more times per week is very personal and we recommend considering more than once per week only after your child has expressed their desire for faster progress.  The instructors will be glad to discuss the merits of such a decision should that time come.

For the older, more advanced tumblers, especially the cheer tumblers it becomes more important for a twice per week training schedule, as learning the more difficult tumbling skills takes longer.  There is a 20% discount for additional classes.

Make-Up Classes

Although it is always best to attend your regularly scheduled class, we do allow two make-ups per session, when arranged in advance.  Please call the office to schedule a make-up, as we do limit the number of make-ups in any class.
